Character Information

Character Name: Makoto Naegi
Character Series: Dangan Ronpa
Character Age: 15-17
Character Gender: Male

Original Canon
Canon Point: Post 2nd Trial
Background Link:
In short, Dangan Ronpa is about a group of specially gifted students that are enrolled in a very special private school that caters to these types of students to help them excel in life. Makoto Naegi, your run-of-the mill average guy, is specifically chosen to attend it due to his Super High School Level Luck, which sounds quite suspicious, considering the other students could not even be counted as being on the same level with him, as he's leagues below them.

...Unfortunately, upon his arrival, Makoto found himself blacking out and waking up to a drastically changed school. All the windows are boarded with thick, bolted steel and not only that, he's trapped in there alongside the other 14 Super High School students. This could not get any worse, right?

At least, that's what he thought until he found out that the school was actually a setting for a cruel game, orchestrated (?) by a cruel bear called the Monobear. The game was simple, a students that kill another students get to 'graduate', provided the murderer's deed is not found out. What follows next, could possibly called the worst school year he ever had experienced, with betrayals, unexpected developments as well as murders, a lot of them.

Personality:
If there's one thing anyone can say to sum up their first impression of Makoto, it's that he is too plain to get any attention from well. Everyone. He's just that average of a person when one looks at him from any kind of angle, especially when just about everyone around him in Hope's Peak Academy are not really your average people in a sense. Thatd be probably why he tends to feel inadequate whenever interacting with those very same people he's currently stuck with. But in a sense, that might be why the others decided to rely on him for some matters, as in a place full of special people, his normalcy serves as an anchor that ties them together.

This is compounded by his... inherently friendly nature that enables him to get to know the others with little to no difficulty at all, as he considers everyone a friend. Yes. Even the ones he just met. Makoto's friendly nature just enables him to see through the persona that his schoolmates put on and know their true selves beneath his vision of their superiority. All his Free Time sections is proof to that, as he can really get along with anyone, even if they're pretty much unlikeable in a glance. His sympathy to them, though, might lead to more damage than anyone thinks, due to the way the school worked. In the end, his attachment to them may prove detrimental to his mental health should this cruel game goes on...

A flaw and an advantage at the same time, Makoto also has a tendency to recklessly rush into a problem when it involves people he cares about, as shown when Sayaka decided to switch rooms with him due to her being 'afraid' of being assaulted with no second thoughts at all. Though impaired with the fact that he knows her well enough by that point to consider her as a friend, this doesn't change the fact one bit that Makoto did this deed without even thinking twice about it, which caused trouble the very next morning after the room switch. But that's just the way he is, he views his comrades equally, and he'll lay down his life if it's necessary to protect them.

There's also the fact that Makoto's common sense is the only thing keeping the other's alive, as the other's way of thinking are, skewed, to say the least. This common sense is what enabled him to pierce through the lies a suspect created in order to conceal the murders that happened in the game, as again, logic plays an important part in solving the cases presented, and with the current help he's getting from both Kirigiri and Togami, it's proved that Makoto's normalcy is not the only special ability he has in store.

Abilities: None; While Naegi has quite the logic to work out most of the cases, he's really average and thus, he has no telling supernatural ability to back him out of certain situations.
